2010 April 10 update: Deck construction table added.
2010 March 21 update: Deck dead light, deck ventilator, and deck hatch hold open device drawings moved to own pages.
2010 February 7 update: Deck beam dimension table to Elco drawings added.
2010 January 11 update: Hull profile drawing updated to Elco drawings.
2008 November 24 update: Black boot topping removed. I left the line for reference since it showed on the drawing.
2008 November 10 update: Although it seems to be shown on the outboard profile drawing, the black boot topping seen in the below drawing may not have been used according to a post I read at ptboats.org. If this is the case then the copperoid bottom paint would extend up to the same point as the black does. I'll try to find out if this is true for all the 80 foot Elcos, please drop me an e-mail if you know.
The following information is based mainly on the Elco lines drawing number 3000 dated December 24th 1941, and several other drawings. Dimensions given were found on the drawings or derived from them. They represent a best effort on my part, please confirm dimensions and information given here for yourself if errors cannot be tolerated. Images are for non-commercial personal use only, please obtain permission for any other use.
General notes regarding the lines drawing:
-
The drawing is only available half-sized and stitched from photos so some repair was needed.
-
Stations, buttock, and water lines are used by the lines drawing to lay out the shape of the hull.
-
Stations are evenly spaced 88" divisions along the LWL (length on water line, not the same as the painted W.L.). The LWL is 73' 4" (880") and goes from station 0 (68") to station 10 (948") with st1/2 added between st0 and st1.
-
The lines drawing shows front (body plan), top (half-breadth plan), and side (sheer or profile plan) views of the hull.
-
The top view shows the outline of the hull along with additional outlines based on horizontal slices through the hull called water lines.
-
The side view is similar except that it shows the hull profile along with additional vertical slices parallel to the keel called buttock lines.
-
The front view shows the cross sections of the hull at the stations.
Hull profile
The following image shows hull sections located at the stations. I have straightened it the best that I could but it is not perfect. The blue lines were added as guides for straightening. I will post accurate gridded outlines based on all three views when the hull is finished. A larger image is Here.
Body plan derived from Elco/B.O.S. lines drawing 3000, available at ptboats.org.
